The United States (US) Embassy had the opportunity to host the world renowned Surgicorps International recently.

The team of physicians and medical professionals arrived last weekend in Samoa and will provide free surgeries and consultation at the National Hospital.

Attendees at the event included Tony Greubel, Chargé d’Affaires, U.S. Embassy Apia, the Associate Minister of Health, Salausa Dr. John Ah Ching, Director General of Health, Leausa Dr. Take Naseri, Chinese medical team and local doctors.  

The Surgicorps’ mission is to help people lead a more normal, healthy, and productive life especially providing medical care to people in need in developing countries like Samoa, as well as foster an exchange of knowledge and experience among medical professionals.  

The team was scheduled to be in Samoa from February 18-22 at the Tupua Tamasese Hospital (TTH) at Motootua.

They are comprised of American doctors specialising in plastic and reconstructive surgeries to repair functional deformities, injuries, cleft lip, cleft pallet, skin conditions (including cancers) and burns. 

Members of the public that were interested in the services offered by Surgicorps team were asked to visit or contact the TTH to register their interest. 

The group last visited early 2018.
