Village Voice man offered a job

Ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find.

And Peleti Tau has finally found what he has been looking for; a job.

After his story featured on the Village Voice on Tuesday this week, Peleti has been offered a job as a cleaner from the Vaitele Primary school committee.

Earlier this week, Mr. Tau said that he only works part time jobs two days a week for a man residing at Leulumoega uta.

“I come here to work for this man for a bit of money to take care of my family.

“My family is a lowly family; that’s where the problems are at in terms of not enough money and resources to take care of the family.

“Even with our home situation, we only have one house for all of us.

Mr. Tau went on to speak about his work experience.

“I come here to clean this man’s land every week and I get $40 a day from it,” said Mr. Tau to Village Voice.

“It’s enough for a day but not enough for a week.

“I think that’s a problem that our society is now facing; too many things to do but we only hold a small amount of cash.

“So besides this part time job, we literally have nothing to work on.

“After this we try to find other jobs to make some money from.

“I just really need a job. I am a hardworking person and I’m good at cleaning lands like what I’m doing now or any other work that’s related to the plantations or lands.

“But for me right now, whatever job I will be blessed with, I will do my best in doing it.”

These are the words that touched one of our readers heart, Vaitele Primary school committee Assistant Ana Meredith.

“After reading the article on Tuesday, I went straight to the Principal and told her about it and the committee as well,” she said.

“I proposed to the committee and the Principal for Peleti to work for our school because I understand the fact that our people really need jobs.

“And the Principal agreed as well as the committee.”

Ana said they had a cleaner before but not anymore.

“We had someone before but it’s one of those people that just left the job without any reason.

“So we had been looking for someone to work for the school; responsible for cleaning the school facility and you know this job is an everyday job and this is good for Peleti because he needs a stable job.

“You know after reading Peleti’s story, it’s clear to me that he’s someone who really wants a job, someone who’s hardworking and he’s the type of person who always works for the betterment of his family (tausi-aiga).

“These are the kind of people that deserve opportunities for work.”

Peleti Tau was overwhelmed when receiving the great news.

“Today is the best day of my life,” he said.

“It’s good timing as well because today is the last day of this contractual work that I’m currently working on.

“I can’t wait to start working soon.

“Thank you Village Voice and thank you to the Vaitele Primary School and its committee for the opportunity.”
