Maliuga Agamaua of Samatau and Saoluafata knows that life in the villages is easy if you work hard and have a family who are always supporting you. 

Aged 54, Maliuga is a hardworking person who provides for his family no matter what.

“This is what I do every day,” he said. 

“I have 3 children and we are currently staying here at my wife’s family.”

“Life here at Samatau is not bad but I have to admit that I kind of miss my own home at Saluafata, my family.”

“But this is the life, if you love your wife and children; you got to go wherever they go.”

“It’s good here, it’s peaceful and everything runs smoothly.”

“I’m glad that I get to help out my wife’s family as well and not just my family.”

“I want my children to know that their mother’s family is as important as mines so they won’t have to take sides in the future.”

Village Voice caught up with Maliuga when he was waiting for a bus to go to Apia and he has been there for quite a long time.

“I think the only thing here that’s troubling the villagers is the bus schedule.”

“I mean right now, both buses are now in Apia so it takes more than 2 hours for them to get here.”

“The bus drivers are not really working on their time; and by that I mean, when another bus is in Apia, the other bus should be here but unfortunately, they’re not working that out so a lot of us here wait for a long time.”

“And by the time we arrive to Apia, it’s way past the time that we’ve planned to run our errands.”

“It’s not a major problem but it’s annoying you know.

“Anyways despite that issue, everything is still good.”
