Samoa’s port is under construction.

It means there has been a surge in the numbers of engineers visiting the island and staying to appreciate its beauty.

Three such workers are Graeme McLeod, aged 59, and father and son team Jason Munce, aged 51, and Haawi Munce, aged 30.

Already two-months into their expected six-month stay, they have experienced much of Samoa and its culture.

The port provides endless opportunities for the Samoan people, as the government’s Tuimaugaoalii Kazumasa Shibuta said at the construction’s launch.

“We can call the port as a ‘Life Line’ to sustain activity of Samoan people, especially agricultural crops, fish food, fuel etc, and of course, passengers of cruise ship has a high priority for an engine of tourism,” Tuimaugaoali’i said.

The improved safety and facilities will doubtless result in better transport links and consequently an increase in tourism. The trio are proud to be part of the construction that will help to improve Samoan infrastructure.

During their time off, they discovered the phenomenal beaches of Lalomanu.

“This beach is a wonder,” Jason said. They take every opportunity to come back to the white sand beach, from their accommodation in the small village of Siusega.

“We came here to Lalomanu last weekend, and we were going to go somewhere else, but you can’t beat this.” Haawi added.

Now living is Australia, originally from New Zealand, they are used to blazing heat, and sporting dark tans from their work in the Samoan sun.

All three workers said they would definitely recommend a visit to Samoa.

“We’ve made some great friends here, it’s been awesome to bump into some old ones too. We’ve been going out with them to different beaches around the island,” said Jason.

He added that having an abundance of friends here on the island has made his stay feel more like a holiday than work, as he enjoys what he does.
