The LIFE-Con THINK PINK Initiative presented a donation of $10,000 to the Samoa Cancer Society yesterday. This was done in the spirit of supporting Breast Cancer Awareness with the Theme “Beyond Treatment Calls for our Support!”

The LIFE-Con THINK PINK Initiative was in honor of Former Miss Samoa Miss South Pacific 2002, Manamea Apelu Schwalger who is a Breast Cancer Survivor and Advocate.

Samoa Cancer Society Executive Officer Shelley Burich commended the platform LIFE-Con has created for national awareness on the services and work of the Society.

She emphasized the need for community mobilization to strengthen Cancer awareness and advocacy. The overall goal is Samoa to know of the services offered by the Society and most importantly for Government to explore potential services beyond treatment that can help our people.

Samoa Cancer Society has been in operation since 1998 and has developed to where it is today by the generous support of Government, Development Partners, Supporters and the response from our communities.

Nevertheless it is a Non Governmental Organization that will need the continuous Funding support to keep its doors open and provide the much needed services it provides for Samoa. This is the essence of the LIFE-Con THINK PINK Initiative, because through Samoa Cancer Society direct assistance and support can be facilitated for our people.

One of the most significant outcomes of the LIFE-Con THINK PINK Initiative also in support of Samoa Cancer Society is the establishment of the Miss Samoa Winners Alumni. Represented by the Alumni Chair Verona Parker Miss Samoa Miss South Pacific 1996.

Verona acknowledges that the THINK PINK movement was born out of love and therefore the Alumni is formed to continue this message of love and hope in honor of their sister Manamea. The Alumni will continue the cause with a PAINT SAMOA PINK – I le MANA o le Alofa Project coming up in October amongst other community projects they will lead and support.

The Miss Samoa Alumni President is Mary Jane Mckibbin Schwenke – Miss Samoa Miss South Pacific 1997, Secretary – Cheri Robinson Moors Miss Samoa Miss South Pacific 1998 with 11 Winner members.

The THINK PINK Initiative is the brainchild of the EMD Co. Ltd. LIFE-Con Explosion and Director Kevin Schuster acknowledged the overwhelming support of the Business Community to this LIFE-Con Charity.

In particular the Samoa Events Incorporated SEI, Samoa Water Authority SWA, Samoa Fa’afafine Association SFA, the LIFE-Con Sponsors and Supporters as well as everyone that participated in the inaugural LIFE-Con Explosion 2017.

All the contributions has directly and indirectly assisted in advancing the advocacy efforts of the Samoa Cancer Society. In addition EMD Co. Ltd. has committed to provide free Marketing Support through Social Media Management, Advocacy and Visibility as well as the LIFE-Con Talents to aid the work of the Society in moving forward.

Overall “It takes the collective efforts of many to battle cancer in Samoa. It also takes the right resources to combat this deadly disease. The work of Samoa Cancer Society as a National Cancer Resource Center can help prevent unnecessary premature deaths.

Knowledge saves lives.

In all of the challenges cancer has thrown at me, I see the hand of God in all of this. God bless all of you who have given generously towards the Think Pink Initiative” Manamea Apelu Schwalger.
