Airfares of the future

Dear Editor,

Re: Polynesian Airlines

When Polynesian Airlines was flying internationally last time, it followed like a puppy dog air fares set by Air New Zealand.

While that was not collusion, it was not competition either.

Air New Zealand set the air fares on the Apia Auckland route and Polynesian couldn’t do anything but set similar fares.

Polynesian Airline then and will again, not be in a position to be anything but be a price follower.

The bottom line is, for us members of the public, fares are better in the present colluded market than in a future market totally dominated by Air New Zealand - a basically monopolistic one.
