The Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympics’ (S.A.S.N.O.C) Sports Awards has been resheduled for the 30th of this month.

The confirmation came from the Chief Executive Officer of the S.A.S.N.O.C, Fa’amausili Taiva Ah Young.

“We will be having the event on the 30th of April at the Gym 1 Tuanaimato at 6 o’clock where the Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi will officially open the event,” he said.

Asked why it was postponed Faamausili said it was because of the passing away of the General Secretary, Nu’u Tapasu Leung Wai.

“There were a lot of reasons why we had to postpone it but the most important reason was because of the passing away of our General Secretary.

“We were told by the family that the family service was to be held on that Saturday which we scheduled to have the event.

“So we felt at that time that it’s not nice to celebrate the sports award and yet the family is mourning.

“The other reason is the Singapore 7’s because our sponsor is TV1 so they couldn’t make it because we had an arrangement with them that they will screen the event live internationally but because of the 7’s, it clashed with the event.”

Fa’amausili said the judges are people who have played sports.

“The judges are not from government ministries but they are people who have played sports in the past but are no longer involved in any national federation or with us,” he said.

“The whole thing is about neutrality we got to make sure that we don’t get criticized by anyone during and after the event.

“There have been cases in the past that we (S.A.S.N.O.C) were being criticize for being unfair in the judging of the event so our President Fepuleai Patrick Fepuleai decided not be involved in the panel.

“There are three judges and I am not sure who they are. The only person that would know is our President but he is overseas at the moment.

“Even the winners we don’t know who they are. We will only find out on the night when the M.C announces the winner.

“There will also be a guest speaker from New Zealand who will speak on the night but at this point we will reveal who that person is soon.”
