For Faamalele Va’a, 37 years old from Tuana’i, all she dreams of is a home.

She lives with her husband and three kids in a faleo’o and when it’s the rainy season, they move to her mother’s house to stay.

“There we can care for each other, but I so want to build up my family in a proper way with a proper house.

“I’m not saying that I’m not grateful for the home we have, but it’s just that I want my children to be comfortable and grow up in a proper home like everyone else.”

She said, “I’m just thankful that we are able to stay in a shelter instead of being homeless but we have kids and we want to make sure they are safe all the time.

“To me, my first priority is making sure of the safety and wellbeing of my children because children are the future of tomorrow.

“You see, my husband works as a K.L. security guard at Matautu and what he earns is mostly $100 a week.

“This money covers my three kids education at school, church donations and what’s left is for food.

“To be honest, we couldn’t afford a house at the moment or any time soon.

She is also responsible for her sick dad and her mother who live beside them.

“Being responsible for my parents with the money we earn, I tell you it’s just not enough.

“We have our everyday needs and wants, and this dream of building a house.

The high cost of living is also a problem, she said.

“You see, the thing is, back in the days we would a live in proper house, but life changes and everything changes and so does the cost of living.

“But I know sometimes I think it’s not right for us to just blame an invisible issue because throughout life we get to choose which path we take.

“Nevertheless all I need is to get some help building my home because I don’t know how it is possible when what we earn is just $100 a week.
