With Christmas just a few days away, a mother of six is hoping to give her children a better home.

Siaunofo Seti, 42, of Lotoso’a Saleimoa told the Village Voice team yesterday that it is always painful for her to see her children live in an inadequate shelter.

And with the festive season bringing in rain and unforeseen weather changes, Siaunofo worries for the safety of her children.

“Now it is raining, we are using what we have as curtains to cover our stuff such as our suitcases from getting wet and where we sleep,” she said.

“We really need help with some materials in order for us to build a proper home for my children.

“This is my husband’s family, but I am from Malie.

“I have six children, the eldest is with my parents but the others are with us. The second eldest stays home and helps us with our vegetable garden during this school holiday.

“Selling vegetables such as pawpaw, cucumber other vegetables is how we earn an income to survive.

“If we sell all of our vegetables at the market, we usually earn more than a $100 tala if not we earn less. However, it is enough for our family to get us through another week.

“The cost of living is very expensive but our family still manages to put food on the table for our children. What we need help with is our family home.”

Water is another problem for Siaunofo’s family.

“We still don’t have water supply, however we rely on rainwater.

“We hope that my family can celebrate Christmas this year in a safe home.

“I hate to say that I need help with our house but we don’t know who else to turn to.”
