Chiefs’ are continuing their undefeated run for Super 9 Rugby Championships after defeating Southern Tornadoes yesterday on a crucial tight game 26-25 at fulltime.

These two proud Rugby teams went head to head for the top of the table decider match at the Apia Park for round five.

Chiefs started promisingly attacking from their kick off and executed a well-deserved opening minutes try in the corner from their second five Malu Falaniko.

The boys in blue repeatedly attacked but were unlucky to capitalize from forcing handling errors near the try line.

Southern Tornadoes  responded with a score ten minutes later  and an unsuccessful conversion by their kicker Togipo Iamanu.  The men in red continued escalating and used their heavy forward pack scrum and they earned another try from their forwards.

Chiefs bounced back with another try from their fullback Johnny Vaili just minutes before half time, and this saw the dangerous attacking mode Chiefs were in.

Both teams headed to the break with Chiefs leading the first spell 17-10 at Half time.

Southern Tornadoes proved their consistency and power earning two tries within the second half by Lei’a Saofaiga and Captain Semiperive Semeane.

Tornadoe’s first five Togipo Iamanu missed all his attempts while Chief’s Malu Falaniko  converted all four penalties, and two conversions.

The atmosphere yesterday at Apia Park was superb, witnessing the supporters from both teams fill up the grand stands.

Malu Falaniko was excited about his team’s effort yesterday.  He told the Sunday Samoan: “We knew this was a real challenge for us, and I’m proud to say our boys gave it their all for the result today [yesterday].”

“Next game will be another tough one, we will be working extra hard to maintain our results and our performances,” he said.

Tornadoes congratulated Chiefs for the win. “Congratulation to the Chiefs, they deserved their win, it was a hotly contested match, but as you know there will be only one winner.”

Chiefs have now topped the table, with tough challenges up ahead of coming their way.
