Parliament briefing for the XVI Parliamentary term on this morning

The first Parliament briefing for the XVI Parliamentary term will be held today at 9:00am. 

Parliamentarians will assemble at Tuanaimato, for their Pre-Sitting induction on five (5) Government Bills proposed for this month’s session.

The five bills are:

1) Coroners Bill 2016

2) Bankruptcy Amendment Bill 2016

3) Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016

4) Landing Limited Bill 2016

5) Village Fono Amendment Bill 2016

The responsible Chief Executive Officers for the respective Ministers will clarify policy frameworks for new Bills and provide justifications for amendment bills. 

The briefing aims to enhance the relevance of debates by increasing awareness of broader issues. 

Parliament will convene on Wednesday 22 June from 9:00am, for the second reading debates and consideration on detail of the Supplementary Appropriation Bill (No.2) 2015/2016 and Appropriation Bill2016/2017. 

The Finance and Expenditure Committee report on these Bills will also be debated. 

Moreover, the 4th Parliamentary College Programme will also be held starting from the 22-23 of June at Tuanaimato. 

Approximately 150 College students will take part in this year’s programme.  For the fourth year running, select college students are given this opportunity to visit and interact with their representatives in the course parliamentary democracy. 

Speech competitions on various parliamentary issues are the feature for each year’s programme.  For this year, 29 Colleges from Upolu and Savaii will compete for the top prize which was won by St. Joseph’s College.
