Every day is an opportunity to work

Every day is a gift.

And what better way to spend it than working the land.

This is exactly what Saulo Samu from the village of Levi Saleimoa was doing yesterday when he was spotted by the Village Voice.

Aged 68, Saulo understands that the only true value of life lies within hard work.

“Owning a plantation means you have so much strength,” he said.

“To me, my age doesn’t matter because working at my plantation is a good way for my old body to get some exercise.

“This is what I do every day and it’s done with hard work, and this is just for me to keep my body working.”

Asked about life in general, he said: “The only problem I face is money.

“We all know with plantations, it will take a while before it turns to profit. But sometimes it’s good for producing food for the family.”

Saulo said his children work but they all have their priorities.

“With my children’s jobs their pay goes to a lot of things.”

Saulo said he loves life in Samoa and how people look out for families first.

“This is how it should be, family comes first before anything else.”

“The cost of living is always increasing. The price of everything is increasing.

“But it’s always a good idea to have a small plantation at the back of your house to fall back on. It will help make it easier to take care of your children and family.”
