The challenge was launched by the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (S.A.S.N.O.C) with Digicel Samoa backing the programme to the tune of $20,000.

Designed to encourage more women to participate in any kind of sport, President of S.A.S.N.O.C, Fepuleai Patrick Fepuleai, said women’s participation is vital to the development of any sport.

For the Chairperson of the Challenge, Nynette Sass, she said the programme encourages women to be more proactive and take part in sport.  The challenge on the first week of April.

On Saturday night, Deputy Prime Minister, Fiame Naomi Mata’afa, closed the event, applauding the concept.

“In returning to the work of the Samoa Women in Sports Commission, the focus on women and girls is warranted,” she said.  “In reviewing the documentation of this particular event I did take note of the guiding I.O.C pillars and the purposes of the five sports in the 1 month challenge in which we are now celebrating the culmination tonight.

“I was particularly taken by the words that describe the attributes gained through these sports; the words precision, speed, coordination, strength, endurance. These attributes that sports builds, they are however attributes that takes us through life and challenges that we face.” Here are some more photos from the evening:
