Miss Samoa, Sonia Piva, is ready for the 2018 Miss Pacific Pageant in Tonga.

Last Saturday, the outfits she will be wearing during her stay in Tonga were displayed during a fundraising event held ahead of her departure this week.

Held at the Ministry of Health’s conference room, the event featured 10 outfits donated by various designers like Rupi Taituuga, Pele’s Creation, Iya and Kuki. Betham Brothers donated a dress made by Wendy’s.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer, Ms. Piva said she is well prepared for the contest. Her goal is to return to Samoa with the Miss Pacific crown.

“At the moment I am contented but I know that we are still in Samoa, and I am sure as soon as we land in Tonga, the nerves will start to kick in,” she said.

“But it does not worry me so much because I am well aware that if I put God first, I will be well protected and looked after throughout my journey.

“Besides, every time I may experience any nervousness, I just think about God and not forgetting my beautiful country of Samoa that are all supporting me and putting such great faith in me so that I may achieve what we set out to do in Tonga.”

Rev. Petaia Leavai opened the event on Saturday with a prayer. He also offered Ms. Piva some encouragement.

“Even if our preparations are a hundred percent, we still need to be humble,” he said. “I would like for you to continue being humble and empty yourself to God so that he may fill you with his spirit to compete and overcome your weaknesses.”

Rev. Petaia reminded that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

“The exaltation can come in many forms from God and only God can decide when what is necessary to do.

“We all know that this is not an easy task to accomplish and as suspected God himself will be having a tough time soon in trying to answer all your prayers.

“But we must have faith and act out according to Christ even if you don’t achieve the results you hoped for but we have the joy and pleasure that you have acted in a Godly manner and when you have understood the meaning of humility in the bible and put it into practice, I assure you, you are a winner even if you do not win in this competition.

“May the grace of God be with you and supporting committee throughout your journey,” he added.

There were also various entertainments from Samoa Performing Arts and Creative Excellence (S.P.A.C.E) dance group.

The Miss Samoa and her team depart for Tonga on Saturday.
