The Samoa Association of Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutions (S.A.T.V.E.T.I.) held a special meeting on Friday 10th August 2018, at T.A.T.T.E. conference room to reconvene and elect new Executive.

Although dormant for number of years, the members of S.A.T.V.E.T.I. continued to express the need and desire to reactivate and re-engage to strengthen technical and vocational education and training in Samoa.

This was made possible with the joint efforts of the Samoa Qualifications Authority (S.Q.A.) and National University of Samoa (N.U.S.).

Newly elected Executives are President - James Ah Fook (N.U.S.), Vice President - Namulauulu Tavita Leaumoana (Congregational Christian Church of Samoa Technical Center), Treasurer - Rosita Esera (Director of Education C.C.C.S.), Secretary and S.Q.A. Assistant Chief Executive Officer of Research, Policy and Planning, Leali’ifano Easter Manila – Silipa and Executive Member, Kuinimeri Tamati (National Council of Early Childhood Education).

The Executives were nominated and elected from members of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (T.V.E.T.) providers and a representative from the S.Q.A.

S.Q.A. Chief Executive Officer, Letuimanu’asina Dr. Emma Kruse Vaai stated that the re-establishment of S.A.T.V.E.T.I. is timely and crucial in enabling all T.V.E.T. Providers to share challenges and solutions by working together.

“Legislation requires all T.V.E.T. Providers to register and quality assure their programmes with S.Q.A. to ensure required standards are met,” she said.

“Through S.A.T.V.E.T.I. the Samoa’s Professional Standards for T.V.E.T. Trainers can also be achieved through continuing education and training.”

For the first year, S.Q.A. will provide administrative and secretarial support for S.A.T.V.E.T.I. and thereafter the association will operate independently.

The initial focus would be supporting and enabling all T.V.E.T. providers to register with S.Q.A. followed by accreditation of their programmes and the incorporation of National Competency Standards (N.C.Ss) and uptake of Samoa Qualifications in trades.

S.A.T.V.E.T.I. will also play a pivotal role in the timely revision of National Competency Standards (N.C.S's) for Trades and other fields as well as policy advice, continued engagement with industry, employers and other stakeholders to ensure relevancy between education and training and the workplace.
