Samoa Tag Incorporated has received $5000 from Bank South Pacific (B.S.P.) for the Teuila Tag Tournament.

The cheque was presented to the President of Samoa Tag Incorporated, Faaofonuu Leota at the B.S.P. boardroom on Friday.

B.S.P.’s Head of Finance Samoa, Jennifer Ula-Fruean, said the sponsorship confirms the bank’s commitment not only as a banking and financial institution in the Pacific, but a partner in cultural and sporting activities.

“We are happy to be part of this tournament in promoting, fostering, and interpreting teamwork amongst our youth,” she said.

Faaofonuu thanked B.S.P. for the donation, especially their faith and confidence in the Teuila Tag tournament.

“As you are well aware it is a new sport, I know it’s hard for a new sport to come into Samoa and get sponsorship like this.”

“Tag is for everyone, all different shapes and sizes and no limits on ages. This sport is unique due to it being a non-contact sport. There is no age limit, so it’s for all ages, anyone can play,” he said.

The Teuila Tag Festival is an international tournament and it will be hosted for the first time in Samoa. There are 40 local teams and 14 overseas teams from New Zealand and Australia. Samoa Tag Incorporated was established six months ago and has had a tournament every month.
