The real difference

Dear Editor,

Minister Lautafi in your story on the Sunday Samoan has hit the nail on head.

“[The Asians] are in your face suggesting things you should buy,” he said. “They are business orientated people. They make sure you will not go out of the shop without buying something and its part of their business ethics that draws people to their shops.

“That is the philosophy that has not clicked on our people. As opposed to our shops you go inside and they look at you as if they don’t want you there.”

We have all had the “Samoan customer service experience” when going into shops. You ask them a question about a product and they look at you like “how dare you ask me a question”. No smiles whatsoever. They treat you like you are interrupting their day.

Go into a Chinese shop and I am met with a big smile as if I am the best thing to have walked into their lives that day.

That’s the difference.
