Tuesday night was Week Ten of the Faletalimalo Siva Afi, presented by Siva Afi Entertainment and held at the Ooh La La Ice Cream Bar, Matautu.

Sa’Moana Resort Fire Knife Dancers Avau Pulepule and Apelu Matua were the last two performers to go head to head during the elimination rounds of the challenge.

Simi Matuavao from Sa’Moana Resort joined seasoned judge and performer Kome Feagaimalii, to help score the Challenge.

Scores were close and it was Avau who came out as eventual winner on the night. Avau will now represent Sa’Moana Resort during the semi-finals of the Faletalimalo Siva Afi Challenge.

Organiser of the Challenge, Leota Lene Leota said: “These two guys from Sa’Moana Resort are exactly what this Challenge is all about.

“In 2011 Sa’Moana Resort started sending kids from Salamumu to our Ailao Club workshops and the Ailao Club went out to Salamumu to train and help them with their show, until they were able to do their own performances in their own right.

“Now those kids are good enough to come back to Apia and compete with the best, while still performing close to their homes during Sa’Moana Resort’s Fiafia night.”

Leota added: “I’d like to give credit to Daniel Mendola from Sa’Moana Resort for instigating that programme, and encourage other hotels and resorts to do the same.”

The Faletalimalo Challenge has had two fire dancers from participating Hotels perform at the Siva Afi weekly show on Tuesday for the last ten weeks.

The winning performers from those nights will now proceed to the next round to compete with a winning fire dancer from another hotel.

The overall winner will be provided automatic entry to the International Siva Afi Competition 2017, which will be held in Apia 30th August – 2nd September.

Next Tuesday during the Siva Afi show, a draw will be conducted to see which hotels will challenge each other during the Semi finals. To book a seat for the Show, call Siva Afi Entertainment on 752 6128 / 26128.
