Pushing the white perspective of normalcy

Dear Editor,

Re: 5 immigrant women vie for Miss USA pageant title

Just to add to this, I find such articles really pushes the white perspective of normalcy and world view to a point of annoyance!

The use of the term “immigrant” is predicated on one’s naturalised belonging and nationalism as opposed to the other’s translocation of origin, be it their parents or grandparents.

Question is, where is the writer’s origins from?

If they were Native American, then it would make sense. But the language of demarcation and power, includes the use of terms like “minorities” to describe non-whites in America and Australia for example, as well as in Europe.

It’s a use that equates one group above another, excludes, seperates, vilifies, marks. It is the subtle language of racism and unless you are aware of it, you’d go on thinking that you’re an immigrant, a minority, an alien species to what is considered normal and local!

People of European heritage the world over, make up about 20% of the world population. Minority?
