A team from the China Cultural Centre in Fiji made a courtesy visit to The University of the South Pacific’s (U.S.P) Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies (O.C.A.C.P.S).

China Cultural Centre Director Steve X. Deng said the delegation wanted to learn what the Oceania Centre does and witness the facilities and resources they have, to enable better cooperation between the two Centres in the future.

“We are grateful that the Oceania Centre arranged a warm welcome for us. After visiting the gallery and enjoying the dancing and singing performances, we now know more about the Centre,” Mr. Deng said.

He expressed his gratitude in having met the Oceania Centre Director Dr David Gegeo and his staff.

According to Mr Deng, the China Cultural Centre in Fiji is dedicated to the cultural exchange and cooperation between China and Fiji.

“We will cooperate more with local cultural organisations and institutions, not only to introduce Chinese culture to Fiji, but also introduce Fijian culture to China,” he stated.

Among some of the things discussed during the visit was a planned joint performance with the Centre on May 26 at the Laucala Campus.

“We believe that our cooperation relationship will be further strengthened by working together to make this first joint performance successful,” Mr. Deng noted.

Dr. Gegeo said they were more than pleased to host the team, adding that this was their first visit to the Centre.

“This is the start of something new and I am glad that it has happened under my leadership here,” Dr. Gegeo said.

He said the world cannot come together unlike people who can, and further forge relationships and cooperation for something bigger and better.

“We have discussed how we can become mutual partners and identify areas in which we can work together and move forward from there,” Dr. Gegeo added.
