Savai’i gets on the board

Day two of the Samoa International Game Fishing tournament brought good news for the Savai’i boat who finally made it on the board.

American, Dale Withington who is here from Malaysia was very pleased with his catch of the day after finally securing two yellow fins and a barracuda with some serious weight.

While Mr. Withington admits that it was most likely he won’t win any categories he was happy that he experienced a much more eventful day than the previous one.

“ After catching no fish yesterday (Monday) we finally caught three fish today and the weather was exciting, we lost two other yellow fins right by the side of the boat,” he said.

“The hook just pulled through, must have landed in the soft part of the mouth and probably the flesh gave way. The other one was a little bit of trouble getting it to the gaph, it hit part of the boat which tore the hook out of the mouth.”

“Today was much better because we managed to land three fish, it was very rough towards the end. There was a lot of seaweed out there getting in the way. We’re not going to be in first place and we’re not going to win prizes for species and then got a bigger yellow fin yesterday and even.”

The former Peace Corp Co-ordinator was happy to be back in his old stomping grounds.

“I live in Malyasia and this is the first I’ve been back since I left in July 2013. I lived here between 2008 and 2013. It feels great to be back – Samoa is one of my favourite places and I’m very happy I made it back at least once.”

For Team Razzees, whose only condition for joining their team is to be a Rasmussen, were very pleased to also have made the board on day two of the tournament.

The weather conditions according to Captain Henry Rasmussen were not the best and leant to a rather eventful day out on the sea losing a few good fish and winning some as well.

“We’re on the board at least,” Captain Rasmussen said to the cheers of his men on the boat.

“We had some problems with the marlin and we dropped a big full masi this morning and it was maybe the conditions that caused that. On the way in we had fuel problems so we were idle and caught another 7.3 kilo masi and a Spanish mackerel weighing at 13 kg.”

“The tournament is going great, I’m loving it. It’s not too hot which is nice. The first day’s conditions were good and today was not so good.”

The tournament continues.
