The Samoa Land Corporation went to the rescue of art and craft vendors at the Savalalo market, whose roof was blown off by the strong winds and rain last week.

The roof was fixed last Saturday by the Samoa Land Corporation, according to vendors yesterday. 

Vendor Steve Leuatogi, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, said they are thankful for the quick response by the Corporation.

He said those who were using the second row of stalls were the main ones affected after the storm last week. 

“We won’t take back what we said on our loss and to be clear, it’s our second row of stalls that are facing the continuous payment of rents,” he said.

The vendors also said the market’s owner shouldn’t have charged them rent for the days the roof was damaged and they had to relocate elsewhere. 

“But we’re trying to say that we should’ve been dismissed from paying rents too since we’re also affected when it rains,” added Mr. Leuatogi. 

Attempts by the Samoa Observer to get comments from an official, Alo Tupai Neti, were unsuccessful. 

Mr. Neti called this newspaper yesterday to advise that the roof had been repaired by Samoa Land Corporation.
