For Junior Aukusitino, from the village of Lauli’i, schooling is something he doesn’t take lightly and his ambitions of one day becoming an engineer is something he will truly strive towards.

At the young age of 16, Junior already knows the value of hard work. His one drive to work harder is to one day be able to provide for his family.

“I am currently schooling at Don Bosco,” Junior told the Village Voice.

“I am taking engineering right now in school because my dream is to work as an engineer and provide for my family.

“When I was very young, some of my family members were engineers and when I watched them work, it planted a seed in my heart to one day become one myself. “Not only is this a dream of mine, but I also wish to work and help to take care of the elders in my family, especially my parents.”

Being on the school break hasn’t stopped the young man from making his days productive. When finding himself with a bit of free time, he will go and find chores to do around the house.

“Right now my school is on break and there’s nothing much to do,” Junior said.

“I have my usual chores to take care of every day and then I try and look for other ways to be productive. In all honesty, I love going to school.

“I know that if I do my best in school then many doors will open up and I will be able to help out my family more. “I am always told that by parents and whenever I get told off for my school work, I make sure the message sticks in my head and then I work harder next time.” And when it comes to school work, Junior says that obedience is key to succeeding.

“I know that being obedient in school will make my parents happy and that’s why I do so,” he said.

“There are times when I don’t do the right thing but at the end of the day I try and correct my wrongs so that my schooling will be good.

“Another crucial part to anything you do in life is going to church, I always try to go to church because I know the lessons we learn from there are important.

“But for now, I will try to rest during the Christmas holidays and prepare myself for what’s to come in the new year.”
