Pili cautions about misusing technology

Technology makes life easier and faster and it allows people to stay connected.

But be warned.

When it is misused – as is so often the case – it has many negative consequences.

This is the belief of Pili Lemau, 28, from the village of Si’usega.

Mr. Lemau was taking his break from work when the Village Voice team met him yesterday morning at Tuana’imato.

Mr. Lemau says youths in Samoa nowadays have misused technology and it has affected the way they live.

“Technology to my own understanding is a good thing but it has been misused by most Samoans especially social media sites like Facebook.

“I think the technology is the reason we can watch games live on the T.V. and watching news from other countries, but Samoans have misused it.”

Mr. Lemau believes Facebook and other social network sites are created to help people stay connected.

“Lately in Samoa people are using Facebook and other social media sites to attack other people and post stuff that should not be posted.

“People creating fake Facebook pages and attacking people are misusing the sites.”

“I have seen students who are just on their phones the whole night surfing the internet but no homework.

“Facebook and other social media sites have been abused by most young people by sending bad messages to others while they should be studying.

“Technology itself has made our life so easier and we have to use it with care.”
