The journey of a humble mother who overcame the odds to raise a very successful family was celebrated at the Maota o Fogāseuga at Pu’apu’a Savai’i on Monday night.

The occasion was the 92nd birthday celebrations for Mualavau Sealiimalietoa Peseta Taofiga.

Born on 16 October 1925, Mualavau hails from the villages of Salani Falealili and Pu’apu’a, Savaii.

The occasion was well attended by family and friends.

Rev. Aperaamo Tufuga of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa in Pu’apu’a Savaii conducted the service.

Mualavau’s grandson Tusiga Peseta Taofiga paid tribute to a hardworking and God-fearing mother who loves unconditionally.

“Our nana is a very hard working person,” he said. “She loves her family very much and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and we are who are and what we have become because of her hard work.”

“For her to reach her 92nd birthday is a sign of blessings from God.”

“God made our nana live this long because He wants her to see the fruits of her work that she had been doing for all these years through us.”

“This is the least we as her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren can do for her compared to all the years that she looked after and took good care of us.”

“So this is a milestone for her and us because some people they don’t live to get to the years that she has reached and so we thank God for bringing our nana this far.”

According to Tusiga his nana is the last Judaea in the village of Pu’apu’a as well as the church.

Mualavau was married to the late Peseta Taofiga and they have 10 children. She has more than 30 grandchildren including great grandchildren.
