We are lucky

Live within your means is the message from Uaita Mase of Magiagi.

Uaita, a father of two, believes that there is no such a thing as being poor, or the existence of poverty, in Samoa.

Instead, he refers to life being fair when people choose wisely.

“I remember our Prime Minister saying, we are not poor and poverty does not exist in our country

“It’s true. If you look on the bright side, we all have land given to us by our forefathers, we have families to rely on when we have nowhere to go.

“We have neighbors and friends to ask for help so what is there to worry about?

“We should learn to appreciate the little things that are helping us move forward in life.”

Uaita pointed out that poverty only exists in countries like New Zealand where there are numerous homeless people living on the streets.

Furthermore, the 37-year-old explained why he believes the cost of living is expensive these days.

He believes there is a reason for everything.

“It is a fact that the cost of living is expensive, but we may not know the real reason behind it.

“Maybe the fees for importing goods is expensive and that is why the cost of goods is increasing.

“Or maybe foreign countries are charging our country a significant amount of money for goods to be imported -- we will never know.

“All we have to do is accept the fact that life is getting tough and learn how to cope with it.”

The father believes that life is all about working hard.

“The reason why people fail in life is because that is the path they chose.

“They are just staying home doing nothing while there are so many options in Samoa to choose from, work as an employee or work as a farmer, or maybe use your talents to earn a living.

“We never know what the future holds but as for now, the choice is in our hands; make the right decisions and choose how to live life to the fullest.”
