Re: Lessons for life
Great point Marj Moore, we also need to educate our children so that they understand how harmful abuse is and there should be provided resources and counselling for victims of the violence.
Children who witness or are the victims of domestic violence usually suffer mental as well as physical scars for life.
These same children are likely to develop behavioural problems and may think violence is an acceptable behaviour becoming either the abused or the abuser, sadly the cycle in our country repeats itself.
So how do we break the cycle?
There needs to be more awareness of the problem. Media and billboards, lessons in our church and schools, lets target the younger generation for one day they will be the future. For a long time now, it was considered normal for domestic violence to happen and that is simply no longer acceptable.
There needs to be more ways for people to get out of the situation. There are so many women and children living in the shadow of fear, anxiety and pain that domestic violence causes.
It is a real problem, probably one of the reasons some of our women feel inferiority to take up leadership in our government? Hope we can come up with real solutions, because domestic violence hurts and affects individuals, children, families and everyone in general.
