The appointment of a Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Justice Courts and Administration (M.J.C.A.) has been halted, pending the completion of an investigation by the Public Service Commission (P.S.C.).

The investigation into M.J.C.A. and its management began last year, according to P.S.C. Commissioner Aiono Mose Sua.

“The investigation is still on going and hence the delay in appointing the C.E.O. for the Ministry. It is a lengthy process and once its ready a report will be submitted to Cabinet,” he said.

The investigation is focusing on the security and release of court files, internal policies and procedures on managing the use of Government properties, among other issues.

The position is currently held by Papali’i John Taimalelagi; whose contract was up for renewal late last year.

In August last year, the P.S.C. issued the warrant of appointment of Commission under the Public Service Commission Act against the Ministry.

Tabitha Wong-Sin Salima was appointed to carry out the inquiry at the time.

The inquiry’s terms of reference were to look at any material evidence relating to the use, allocation and management of Government assets.

The investigation was the result of a formal complaint laid by Ministry employee Tulima Pio, allegedly in relation to files that he delivered to the Minister’s office.

The Minister for Justice and Courts Administration, Fa’aolesa Katopau Ainu’u, denied the allegations back then.
