A boy who was playing with a box of matches set off a fire that destroyed a Vaigaga home earlier this week.

This was confirmed by the Commissioner of the Fire and Emergency Services Authority (F.E.S.A), Lelevaga Fa’afouina Mupo, yesterday.

Lelevaga said nobody called them about the incident.

“Our firemen were on the tower here, and they saw the smoke from that area, then they contacted our post at Faleata to check and see what was going on,” said Lelevaga.

When F.E.S.A officials arrive, the house was already engulfed by flames.

Lelevaga said only an old lady was at the house with a 5-year-old boy.

“We urge members of the public to please report any incident as soon as possible to the office through our free call number 994 at anytime,” he said.
