Nu’u family faces health battle

Life is a roller coaster for Tauofe Faialaga from Nuu-Fou.

At the age of 71, Mr. Faialaga’s health, including his wife’s, is a battle that is seemingly impossible to deal with every day.

“My wife is very ill, her neck is all swollen and she has been seeking a cure and I fear for her health,” he said.

“I have only one eye that can see and I’ll be undergoing surgery soon. A miracle is the only thing that could change my situation right now.”

The father of eight says this is the reason two of his sons are searching for jobs to look after them and their individual families.

“We are people who need help and despite being poor, we always try to look for ways to support our families.”

He has been living with his children and their families on their land for five years. His children have also built small shacks to support their individual families.

Mr. Faialaga says his children are also hunting for jobs because of his grandchildren.

“I have five sons, the other three have jobs and two are searching for jobs. One of my son has five children, the other two have four  children each. My eldest daughter has eight, but she lives in Taga, Savai’i.”

Mr. Faialaga says most of his grandchildren attend George Brown Primary School and with school commencing soon, he is seeking help with school fees, school uniforms and stationeries.

“I need help putting my grandchildren to school, there are so many of them even though some of their parents work.”

Mr. Faialaga says two of his sons are taxi drivers and their earnings are not enough.

“It would have been better if they owned the taxis that they drive; unfortunately that is not the case.”

They have a plantation which is also a source of income and daily sustenance.

“My eldest son and I started our plantation. We plant cabbage, cucumber and tomatoes,” Mr. Faialaga adds.

Anyone willing to provide a job for Mr. Faialaga’s sons, please contact him on 7767360.
