The Samoa Government, through the Electric Power Cooperation (E.P.C.), will soon launch some of its renewable energy projects.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi says these projects are being carried out in some villages where water is used to produce electricity.

He says projects in the villages of Fausaga, Tafitoala, Fula’asou, Vailoa and Palauli in Savaii are nearing completion.

“These renewable projects help to decrease the cost of electricity supplied into our homes,” Tuilaepa said.

He advised villages that have rivers to consider opening up to such projects because it would benefit the villagers and the development of their village as well.

“It will be rewarding, so stop using concerns that do not have any foundation such as if they use water to produce electricity, something will happen.”

Tuilaepa says government has the authority to source electricity from rivers but it is still giving freedom to the villages to make the decisions.

E.P.C. Chief Executive Officer, Tologata Galumalemana Lupematasila, had earlier told the Samoa Observer that Falese’ela village was removed from the Renewable Energy Project list.
