A Pastor who has played a key role in tutoring many students who have gone on to top their exams during the past few years is remaining humble over his students’ educational successes.

Reverend Muao Fagasua Su’a, of the Congregational Christian Church at Vaitele-uta, said God had given him the ability to teach people spiritually and academically.

“I tutor Science only,” he said. “I can tutor maths as well but I don’t have the time to do it, so I only tutor science, especially physics.”

Rev. Muao said the tutorial classes started five years ago, and since then have helped students perform well at school, and win prizes.

“I didn’t want to do it but this friend of mine started it with her children, and so that’s how this all began.”

“The biggest reward for me is to see them do well in school and flourishing,” he said.

“It makes me very proud and I give thanks to God for giving me that knowledge to be able to help our children to do well in their school and in their future.”

“Most of them, they come to me and give me gifts and thank me for my help after their prize giving, and I humble myself before the Lord and thank Him for being with these children.”

Rev. Muao said he works with 30 students now.

“It started off with just five students, and by this year, that number has tripled,” he said.

“I have parents who are calling me at the moment asking me when my classes are starting; they are booking their children’s space for their next year.”

“It’s hard to turn them down because they need help and I also have students who come from Solosolo, I feel sorry for them but they are willing to come this far to learn and for that I take my hat off to them.”

Rev. Muao was a teacher at Samoa College in 1987, he then moved to the National University of Samoa to teach maths and science, and then to Robert Louis Stevenson Secondary School.

He then went to Malua Theological College, eventually moving on to become a Minister at C.C.C.S Vaitele Uta.
