Work, pleasure all found in Samoa

Travelling for work is one of the greatest perks a job can offer you for many different reasons.

For Pip of Wellington, New Zealand, coming to a tropical island gave her a little teaser of what Samoa had to offer.

Dear Tourist met Pip and Lucy on their walk along the seawall; they are here for work-related reasons and were taking a walkabout town before heading back for meetings.

“This is my first time, I’ve only been here for one day but it’s beautiful to be here,” said Pip.

“It’s very hot of course. Compared to Wellington, there’s no wind and it’s really warm, so those are good things.

“We just had a bit of a walk this morning, we’re doing some training this afternoon so it’s just a nice time to get a bit of sense of the place and have a look around. I’d love to come back and it would be nice to travel more and see more of the other islands as well.”

Meanwhile, Lucy was enjoying her second trip to Samoa.

“We arrived last night and this is my second time,” said Lucy. “I came in August for 10 days for a holiday and I really enjoyed it then. We travelled around to Savaii and around the big island to the blow holes and the lava field – it was beautiful.”

Lucy came to Samoa out of interest because her friends were volunteering here.

“I’ve got friends who are working as V.S.A volunteers. They showed us the markets and how they do their shopping, the good places to go, and the nice resorts. It was good fun.”

As a fan of seafood, Lucy enjoyed tucking into our local fish dishes.

“Yeah I did like the food, especially poke and then the oka – I loved that, it was delicious. I am a seafood fan. We walked down to the fish market on a Sunday that was amazing to see all the fresh produce available to everyone.”

Both ladies were planning on returning to Samoa for a holiday in the near future for a vacation rather than business finding that Samoa was the perfect place for relaxation and rejuvenation.

“Samoa is very much more relaxed. It’s lovely to come from a busy city like Wellington to a nice relaxed place,” said Lucy.

“Yeah I would definitely recommend Samoa as a holiday destination. It’s so easy to get around, we hired a car last time we were here and found the roads really good, welcoming friendly people and obviously the golden beaches and the beautiful weather – no complaints.”
