A White Sunday fusion of pink

It was a fusion of pink and white as the Saloga Salelologa Methodist Sunday School celebrated White Sunday by also remembering loved ones lost to cancer.

White Sunday in Samoa is celebrated with a focus on children, with parents going out of their ways to provide the best for their little ones, from their outfits to making breakfast and lunch (toonai).

But the big day was marked differently by the Saloga Methodist Church as it was noted that October is also a month for cancer awareness. The children and the families decided that they will celebrate both days, as there were families, who were still mourning the loss of their children and loved ones to cancer.

Consequently, the Saloga Methodist Church dedicated their White Sunday to all those who have lost their lives to cancer, as the children wore pink ribbons with their beautiful white clothes prepared by their parents. The Sunday school teachers also marked the occasion and wore white and pink to celebrate the day and to pay tribute to lives lost to cancer.

The program was entertaining and filled with laughter by the church’s congregation members, with some parents shedding a few tears, obviously touched by their children’s performances.

In the evening service, each pitonuu performed in what was an eye-opener for a lot of the church members present.

The service in the morning and evening was conducted by Rev. Samuelu Areta with his sermon revolving around the importance of children and how children are “uncut diamonds”, which should be nurtured and guided in the right path.
