He may be young but he is not shirking the responsibilities of looking after his family.

Tele’a Posala, 18, of Tanugamalala is already working hard at the plantation when most people his age are in school.

“I feel it is my role to contribute to the development of my family,” he said,

“For now, I have given up my education to stay home and help out my parents as they are getting old.”

“It is the choice I made and I know for sure it will benefit me as well in the future.”

Tele’a quit school in 2012. He was only in Year 11.

“I love going to school and socializing with different students,” he said. “I enjoy learning new stuff, locally and internationally.”

“Now that I’m staying home, I miss it a lot to be honest. But my parents’ lives are more important than anything else in this world. So for that reason I have decided to stay behind and help out with our family.”

The 18-year-old is the eldest of his parents’ four children.

“As the eldest, I feel all the responsibilities on my shoulder .… so therefore, it is my role to help out with them in any way I can.”

“I know I am missing out on another step of life (school) but I also can’t ignore the fact that my parents are growing old and need support from their children.”

Does he have further plans in the future?”

“Quitting school at a very young age doesn’t mean I will stop here, no… I will never give up.”

“In fact I will look into other options like getting a job or going back to school.”

“I’m 18 and still young and active. Life is never too short to be wasted … if this was my calling to stay home and look after my parents then I will do it wholeheartedly.”

“I will not throw away any minute because everything counts in this world.”
