Navy members of the first lady of fleet, the Royal Australian Navy ship HMS Success, visited the Home of the elders at Mapuifagalele yesterday morning.

The members met the Sisters who look after the place as well as the elders at the Little Sisters of the Poor.

According to Chaplain Andrew Thorburn, his team was there to help the sisters in any way they can.

“We have been invited to do a bit of help and painting this morning,” he told the Sunday Samoan.

“So we will try and do as much as we can and then we will leave some of the materials and supplies for the caretakers to finish the job."

“But we are trying to work our way around just to get all the paints done."

“This visit was organized by the Australian High Commission, they knew we were coming here and they were looking for opportunities for us to be able to help as our way of giving back to the community and enjoy the hospitality and everything."

“I have been to many places for the elders in Australia and this is beautiful it’s well-kept and the staff members care for the residents and the location is just terrific and it’s lovely for the people to be able to care for the elders in such a positive way."

“We are here for the morning and we will finish up just at lunch time and we will go back to the ship, but we are for couple of more days because we will leave on Monday morning."

“But we will get the chance to have a look around the island and experience all that Samoa has to offer.”
