Tuesday night saw the start of the Faletalimalo Siva Afi Challenge, with two fire knife dancers from the Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel and Bungalows going head to head to see who would represent the Hotel for the remainder of the Challenge.

Jack Laban and Ieti To’omalatai both put in thrilling performances that had the crowd on the edge of their seats.

On hand to judge was experienced performer and expert judge Kome Feagaimalii and special guest judge, Mark Francis, General Manager of Sheraton Samoa.

Ultimately only one performer can make it through to the next round, and on Tuesday night the winner was Jack Laban in what was an extremely close contest.

Jack will now go up against a performer from one of the other participating hotels, once the other elimination rounds have been held.

The Faletalimalo Challenge will have two fire dancers from participating Hotels perform at the Siva Afi weekly show on Tuesdays.

The winning fire dancer on that night will then proceed to the next round to compete with a winning fire dancer from another hotel.

The winner would be provided automatic entry to the International Siva Afi Competition 2017, which will be held in Apia 30th August – 2nd September.

Next Tuesday will see two dancers from the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel compete against each, and it’s expected those performances will be just as hot as last night’s!

Leota Lene Leota, of Siva Afi Entertainment, said: “These boys really stepped up and go hard when competing. They’re gaining valuable experience and improving all the time.”

He added: “The Faletalimalo Challenge has already proven to be a success on many levels”.
