Being hit by a natural disaster when you are unemployed is a terrible combination.

Uelese Fala from Utufaalalafa, Aleipata, knows the feeling.

The father of two shared his experiences about Tropical Cyclone Gita that has left his family worrying about their daily survival.

He says he knew TC Gita was approaching Samoa, but he did not expect it to be strong enough to ruin so many things in his home.

Having only one person in the family who’s employed while there are more than 10 members is the reason Mr. Fala is in need of a job.

“Our source of consumption has been ruined by the cyclone, banana and breadfruit. Our other Samoan house fell down from the strong winds.

“The floodwaters also contributed to the devastation. It came in the house and everything got wet such as our clothes and bags, television, radio and refrigerator that were damaged,” said the 27-year-old.

He shared that only his younger brother works in a construction company and his earnings were never enough to take care of all of them.

“We live together with our grandmother, my aunty and her husband, my brother and his wife and my small family and I, while my parents live elsewhere.

“Our family includes five children,” he added.

Mr. Fala says a job will help his family greatly.

“I really need a job especially with these unexpected events that occur, so we are left devastated and in need, but there is only one hand that supplies the rest of us.”

His problems do not end there.

Water and electricity supply were also affected by the recent cyclone.

However he is thankful that they have a water tank.
