The Bank South Pacific (B.S.P.) continues to develop the children of Samoa through their scholarship scheme offered to selected students every year.

This week, they awarded 50 scholarships to students from various schools during a brief ceremony at the bank’s main office at Apia.

“This year we received 190 applications,” said B.S.P. Country Manager, Taitu’uga Maryann Lameko-Vaai.

The number has increased from last year and is one of many programmes that the bank has been engaged in.

“This number has gone up from last year’s number of applicants,” she said.

The programme gives performing students the helping hand they deserve to gain an education.

“These applicants were chosen by our panel of judges based on their performances and reports from teachers and principals as well as testimonies from the parents.

“After careful consideration, we are happy to announce 50 scholarships are awarded to 50 students.

“Since we began offering these school scholarships, more than 300 students from across Samoa have been able to stay at school longer through financial assistance from B.S.P.,” said Taitu’uga.

Taitu’uga congratulated the successful applicants and thanked those who applied for a grant.

“We truly hope this is the beginning of a long and promising educational journey for our winners,” said Taitu’uga.

Student, Eneleata Laifa thanked B.S.P. for assisting her, especially her parents financially.

“I am honoured to be one of the recipients of the B.S.P. scholarship, thanks to your generous support, I’m happy because I am the first in my family to receive this kind of award.

“Growing up in a less privileged community has not only offered financial and academic challenges, but this scholarship award helped me realize the value of education and to do well in school.

“My education would not be possible without the generous support from B.S.P.

“Thank you for enabling this opportunity.”

This is one of the many commitments shown by the bank towards the local Samoan community.

B.S.P. scholarships deliver financial assistance to primary schools and secondary colleges.

Judges awarded the scholarship based on the school reports forwarded to B.S.P. for students who perform well in school, and families who face difficulties with the payment of school fees.

This is the first time that the bank is awarding 50 scholarships.
