P.M. tightlipped on Church meeting

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa’ilele Malielegaoi is staying mum about the details of their meeting with the Elders of the Congregational Christian Church on Monday, last week. Asked whether Cabinet has reached a decision regarding the Elders' visit, including a response to the letter where his Government has been asked to reconsider the taxing of Church Ministers' alofa, Tuilaepa declined to comment.

Former students drive education progress at Samoa College

The presentation was held at Bistro Tatau Restaurant where the Association gathered. “The Elders of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa (C.C.C.S.) are urging Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa’ilele Malielegaoi and his administration to reconsider the law to tax the alofa received by Church Ministers. This is the gist of a letter from the Church to Prime Minister Tuilaepa, dated 15 June 2018. The 11-page letter, written in Samoan, highlights the church’s position on the issue. It was submitted to Tuilaepa prior to their much-anticipated meeting on Monday. Do you think the Government should reconsider based on the request from the church? Church tax not about theology, E.F.K.S. or whatever. It’s about money

And so once more, Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa’ilele Malielegaoi, has issued a veiled threat to the E.F.K.S. Church in connection to the ongoing dispute over the taxing of the alofa received by Church Ministers.

Dear Editor, Finally, the E.F.K.S. church gives in writing the reasons for refusing to have its church ministers pay income tax. Here are a few brief responses to some of the reasons given and to the church’s General Secretary’s comments about his own beliefs and actions on the subject.

Re: Why faifeaus should be taxed How pathetic these people are talking about Faifeau’s tax, donations, church contributions and church roles in Samoa. C’mon if you are from other denominations, please stay out of this matter. Let the E.F.K.S. members speak and voice their support or not about this.

Re: Savai’i woman’s cocoa break Agree. People complain about the government too much when they are living in “poverty”. But the truth is if you don’t work, no one will put food on the table and makes things better for you.
