Residents struggle with water

Villagers in the mainland of Faleu Manono continue to pray and hope for water connection.

Misitaga Vasa, 42, says most families in his village cannot afford the installation cost.

“This is an issue we have been facing for so long in my village,” the farmer told the Village Voice team yesterday.

“The water from government has been installed in our place and not everyone has water connection because they can’t afford the installation.”

But for people who can afford it, there are other challenges.

“The issue that we face with running water is that it doesn’t work most of the time.”

“At one stage water will be running and then it won’t like today.”

Mr. Vasa says it’s a daily struggle not having water.

“Especially that my house is in the mainland, it is really hard for me to collect water from houses in the coastal area.”

“Cooking washing and cleaning will be so hard for us here, so even if we have the connection, we would still need something to store water in.”

Mr. Vasa says the expensive cost of living is not helping at all.

“Life is really hard and expensive here in Samoa and we really can’t afford to struggle finding water.”

“We have struggled enough and the water issue is too much.”

Mr. Vasa is desperate for water connection.

“Water is needed, especially for families around here.”

“Water has been an issue for so long, and we really want our connection to be the same as everyone, where water runs every day without a problem.”
