The Chief Executive Officer of the Samoa Stationery and Books (S.S.A.B.), Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai, presented a $2,000 cheque to the Samoa Cancer Society.

The Society’s C.E.O., Shelley Burich, received the donation at the S.S.A.B. conference room yesterday.

The donation was from a Pinktober promotion held last month which raised $950 with the company contributing $1050 to make the total $2,000, according to Tofilau.

She said it was an honour and privilege for S.S.A.B. to be part of a promotion for a noble cause, the awareness campaign for cancer 2018.

“This promotion was dedicated to a very special person to me, my dearest sister Ata, a strong fighter and survivor of cancer who lives in Utah, America and also acknowledging our support for our dear friend and sister, Manamea Apelu Schwalger who has passed on to be with our heavenly father.

“I acknowledge Manamea’s hard work and commitment to the Pinktober promotion and cancer awareness which has and will save a lot of lives. We also thank the cancer society for all their promotions and hard work for our cancer awareness not only throughout October but all year round and keep up the great work,” she added.

Tofilau said a lot of people say they care but she personally believes more should be done.

“On that note, I hope our actions and promotions resonates our love for you all (my sister Ata and Cancer Society) that we care and would like to help by supporting the Samoa Cancer Society and spreading awareness with the hope to save lives through our fundraising.”

She concluded by saying that her sister Ata and the late Manamea have inspired her to continue supporting the worthy cause to honour God and also encouraged the Cancer Society to continue their fight.

Shelley Burich, in response, said Manamea left behind a legacy that has led the community and businesses coming on board to support the awareness.

“It has gotten everyone to collectively come together in addressing issues and advocating change to happen in Samoa whether it is through assistance or screening programmes or more education getting out to the community. The money will go to the outreach in helping us get more resources like pamphlets out and cancer advertisements out and just continue that reach,” she said.
