Malietoa Fa’amausili Moli has been charged with unregistered firearm and discharged of an unregistered firearm.

This is in connection to an incident that occurred at his residence at Fagali’i last month, where a gun was allegedly discharged.

Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration Assistant C.E.O., Ve’atauia Fa’atasi Puleiata, confirmed the charge in response to questions from the Samoa Observer.

“He’s released out on his own recognisance and is scheduled to appear in Court for criminal mention in the District Court on 4 December, 2018,” he said and added that he could not comment further in relation to the matter.

In the meantime, Malietoa Fa’amausili is also facing contempt of court charges. Court documents allege that the defendant defied an order by the Court not to proceed with the bestowal of the Malietoa title, held at Malie.

The police affidavit dated August 17, 2018 stated that the defendants of Malie “by an unlawful act, namely conducting the ceremony for the title bestowal of Malietoa Fa’amausili Moli, defying the Court order directed to the Village Council of Malie not to proceed with the ceremony.

“(In doing so) disobeyed the Interim Order issued by the Registrar of the Land and Titles Court on 16 August 2018, committing the crime of contempt of court.”
