Family will never let you down, and you can count on that.

For 17-year-old Foma’i Euta from Vaitele-Uta, life is not complete without his family.

Foma’i told Village Voice yesterday that the family is an important unit and they exist to help us as individuals to walk through this life.

“My parents are all I need in life sometimes I run away from chores day and we all know that our family is nowhere near perfect, but they are all we need in life,” he said.

“We’ve had our ups and downs especially when I disappoint my father by not doing chores around the house.

“But that’s what family are for and it just makes us the strong family we are today. I know that it’s all because my parents love me and they want to me become a good person when I grow up.”

He understands that no matter what obstacle is thrown my way especially when I disobey my parents, their love never fades away.

“We overcome it because that’s what families do; they fight through the hard times, stick together, and, eventually, it will get better.”

Foma’i is the eldest of four siblings.

He believes that “families are your support group, whether it’s financially or emotionally; they are always there.”

“Honestly, my father is really tough on us but our mother always jumps in to save us when it’s time for a (belt) fusipa’u.

“So we always make sure to do our chores to the best we can or else we’ll still go to get that belt...but my parents continue to give us that unconditional love; and everyone needs some kind of love to live.

“The love in my family is very strong, and it should be in every family.

“For some people, it is hard to understand the concept of supporting each other and I’m lucky to have a family who values each other.”

When hard times arise it’s the love from your family especially that helps you overcome hardships,Foma’i said.

“Without family, I don’t know where I would be in life.

“Family has persevered with me through the ups and downs and they never let me down.

“My family is my life and they got me to where I am today. I lean on them when times get hard and they do the same with me and I believe family is the most important thing in my life.”
