The search for the body of a missing Chinese national has been called off after a week of searching by authorities.
The Ministry of Police confirmed this yesterday afternoon in a statement.
“To date his body has not been found," the statement said.
“Police Outpost (Lalomanu and Poutasi) are liaising with local villages around the area to notify police if a body is located."
The man in his early 20s was reported missing at the To Sua Ocean trench two Sundays ago.
He was identified as Feng Nen Ming.
The Police identified him as a tourist.
He becomes the second person to have disappeared at the popular tourist spot.
Last year, a Samoan living in New Zealand also disappeared there. His body has never been found.
When the Samoa Observer visited To Sua to seek a comment last week, the family declined. They also refused to allow the Samoa Observer in.
The Samoa Observer contacted the Chinese Embassy in regards to the matter.
However, Secretary Liu Peng told the Samoa Observer that he will call back when he obtain instructions.
Mr. Peng did not respond at the time of press.
