Woman disputes Police claims

A young woman arrested and charged during a Police raid at Lotopa has disputed a report from the Police about what was discovered during the raid.

Contrary to claims by the Police they found a ‘straw used to consume ice and 17 empty plastic bags they suspected were used to pack drugs, Kim Carruthers said none of those claims are true.

“The straw they found was from a McDonald’s drink,” she told the Samoa Observer yesterday.

“I can also tell you that the mini bags they are referring to were not used for any drugs, they are like lole saina bags. So these claims are wrong.”

Carruthers visited the Samoa Observer saying she wanted to set the record straight, proclaiming her innocence.

She did not want to discuss the details of the case, as a hearing is pending.

However, she said it’s important that the Police tell the truth.

The charges against Carruthers and Aitken Keil are being finalised following the raid at the Sports Lodge, Lotopa, on 27 May 2016.

The pair appeared in the Supreme Court before the Chief Justice, His Honour Patu Tiava’asue Falefatu Sapolu this week.

The Director of the National Prosecution Office, Mauga Precious Chang asked the Court for a one-week adjournment so they could finalise the charges.

In the meantime, Carruthers is out on bail.
