Liva’s lively performance secures win for Amoa Resort

Last Tuesday night was the penultimate of the Faletalemalo Siva Afi elimination rounds, presented by Siva Afi Entertainment and held at the Oooh la La Ice Cream Bar, Matautu. 

Amoa Resort Fire Knife Dancers Liva Kueva and Michael Isaako went head to head in front of a pack crowd of spectators from all around the world.

Liva’s lively showmanship was the difference on the night as he nudged out Michael to take the win. Liva will now go on to represent Amoa Resort during the finals of the Challenge.

Kome Feagaimalii was joined by special guest judge Paul Caffarelli, General Manager of Amoa Resort, to score the Challenge. 

When announcing the winner of the Challenge, Mr. Cafarelli thanked the crowd for their support and said “Thank you to Leota for organising this great event, the Faletalimalo Siva Afi Challenge.

This challenge helps motivate the fire knife dancers to raise the standard of their performances, at hotels and resorts across Samoa”

He added “These guys all have families to feed and school fees to pay for their children, and they can now earn a decent living as professional fire knife dancers”

 “The thing about fire knife dancing is that no matter where you see it anywhere in the world, you know that it is a performing art truly unique to Samoa”.

The Faletalimalo Challenge will have two fire dancers from participating Hotels perform at the Siva Afi weekly show on Tuesdays. The winning fire dancer on that night will then proceed to the next round to compete with a winning fire dancer from another hotel. 

The overall winner will be provided automatic entry to the International Siva Afi Competition 2017, which will be held in Apia 30th August – 2nd September.

Next Tuesday, fire knife dancers from Sa’moana Resort will compete in the last of the Faletalimalo Siva Afi elimination rounds. Soon after the quarter finals begin and will have Hotel versus Hotel during The Hottest Show in Town!
