Global support for Samoa’s heroine

By Sina Filifilia Seva’aetasi 16 March 2017, 12:00AM

An outpouring of love has come from individuals around the world for Samoa’s first Olympic medallist, Ele Opeloge.

It has not gone unnoticed.

Although ‘Samoa Observer’ is coordinating ‘Ele’s Fund’, it is the voices of the people that are out there expressing their admiration of weightlifter, Ele and calling her a heroine.

Whether it is by donating to ‘Ele’s Fund’, spreading the word, or simply ‘liking’ the page on Facebook, every bit of support underscores the respect and love for this humble and supremely talented athlete.

As of yesterday, the ‘Ele’s Fund’ page on Facebook reached an audience up up to 71,000.

Here is just a small selection of what the online audience had to say:

Nelly Samoa:

I don’t get it. She has been one of or the only hopefuls to get us gold medals throughout the Pacific, Oceania, and even on the Commonwealth podium The Olympics is another scenario, these are the best of the best athletes from around the world, and for Samoa to obtain a silver medal and its first-ever medal in the Olympics, is like winning a lottery, mission impossible more like it but she made it possible through hard work, perseverance, determination and the heart of a Samoan heroine. First of all she should be shown respect from the government for what she has accomplished, secondly, compensation, lastly, respect for the Weightlifting Federation for what no other sports code has achieved.

Fia Lainey Aldrin:

Congratulations Ele. Fai a e oe measili ma manumalo ai a oe. Every sweat counts. Ole Atua e taui e leo le tagata. Samoa got you girl. God bless

lmar Tauvao:

Malo Soia:
