Member of Parliament for Salega, Afualo Dr. Wood Salele, has responded to a broadside made against him and fellow Salega M.P, Tapua’i Toese Ah Sam, by an election candidate.

Representing the Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P), Tapua’i Titi Lua, had claimed that the sitting Tautua M.Ps for Salega had not done enough work for the constituency.

Tapua’i Titi said the two are hardly seen in the district and it is time to return the seats to H.R.P.P. Asked for a comment, Afualo said the accusations are untrue.

He said the candidate should just stick to the issues he wants to address rather than making false accusations.

“He’s questioning our work over the years but I don’t want to talk about those things because people might think we are praising ourselves,” said Afualo.

“It is a pity if this is the kind of person who wants to represent Salega. The constituents are listening and we don’t have to broadcast to the world what we have done…they have seen our work.”

Asked what those works are, Afualo said for the past five years, year 12 and 13 students of Savai’i Sisifo College have not had to pay for school fees.

He explained there were about sixty students whose school fees he and Tapua’i Toese Ah Sam funded.

Other works during the Parliamentary term included but not limited to, a hall for the college and new school building for Faia’ai, Fogatuli and a road to Sagone and Fogatuli.

A member of Parliament’s Finance Committee, Afualo assured that there are further works in the pipeline to improve roads in the villages.

The constituency of Salega has been split into Salega West and Salega East for the General Elections. Afualo is up against To’omata Aki Tuipea for the Salega West seat while Tapua’i Toese is being challenged by Olo Fiti Vaai, also known as Levaopolo Talatonu, and two other candidates.
