Staff and students of Vaimauga College received a generous donation from the Lisa-Bridget Mapu Foundation on Thursday.

The donation included computers, books, printers and stationaries.

The L.B.M. Foundation was set up to honor the memory of Lisa-Bridget Mapu, who passed away last year. She was 14.

Her older sister, Hannah Penina Mapu, spoke on behalf of her sister and family.

“Lisa had a heart for helping others less fortunate than herself which urged her to build her dream of helping Samoan students by providing the necessary resources for the bettering of their education,” she said.

“Lisa had planned on donating resources and supplies to a school that she could see would use and need these, so that she would be able to make it an ongoing alliance to help and improve the education status for Samoa.”

When Lisa passed away, Hannah stepped up.

“My goal now is to carry on her dream so that her legacy may live,” she said.

“I believe that with providing the correct resources and tools for the students of Samoa, we are breaking barriers and opening doors for students to be competent and even excel in areas such as computers and especially English which in turn will increase the job skills of students in preparation for the real world.”

Principal of Vaimauga College, Alofa Kaisara, was grateful.

She said that the school already has a computer lab and a library but there was still a need of more computers and books for students.

“The resources given by L.B.M. will help our children in many ways and we are grateful for that,” she said.

“We have signed a contract and we will be working together to help improve education for our students, and this is very great.”

The donation consists of: Eight computers, extra computer modems, 1 extra set of power cords, 1056 books for the library, 12 boxes of A4 papers, 2 printers, 2 boxes of exercise books and 1 box of rulers and sharpeners.

This is not the first time the Mapu family has made a donation for schools in Samoa. They also donated resources to the Alofi-o-Taoa College and Samauga Primary School in Savai’i when they visited the country in 2012. However, this was their first donation as the Lisa-Bridget Mapu Foundation.
